New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday registered a disproportionate assets case against former Dental Council of India president Dr Anil Kohli.
This comes almost a week after the CBI filed a chargesheet against Ketan Desai, the former president of the Medical Council of India.
The CBI raided six places, including Kohli's residence and offices, in Delhi.
CNN-IBN had in 2010, extensively reported on the rot plaguing the dental education regulator.
A Health ministry enquiry report accessed by CNN IBN indicted the DCI for allowing mushrooming of dental colleges and misappropriation of funds.
The report claimed that the DCI was granting recognition to ill-equipped dental colleges.
Another serious charge leveled against the DCI was that its inspectors were filing incorrect and misleading reports on dental colleges.
The man in the eye of the storm, while speaking to CNN IBN, had tried to distance himself from the entire controversy.
"We have heard about inspectors misusing power, but I can't personally monitor every DCI member," Kohli had said.
With increasing cases of corruption against DCI and MCI coming to light, the government will now have to put its plan of creating a higher council for medical education on the fast track.
